Advances In Implant Technology May Eliminate The Need For Bone Grafting
Advancements in dental implant surface coatings provided for quicker integration, (i.e., healing to bone). The advantage of these improvements to dental implants is that they offer the benefits of a less invasive dental implant approach. Often, sinus lifts with bone grafting are required to place dental implants in the posterior (molar region) upper jaw. New technology has developed short wide dental implants with improved coatings that can often eliminate the need for advanced bone grafting and sinus grafts. Bone grafting and sinus lifts add additional cost to treatment as well as increase surgical risk. For those individuals with limited bone and for which dental implants are not applicable, modified sinus lift surgery may be indicated. This new technique is significantly less invasive over traditional approaches thereby reducing surgical risk associated with traditional lateral window sinus elevation.
